Our core task is to solve one of the largest and most underestimated problems in emergency medicine in cold weather: prehospital hypothermia.
A high percentage of fatal war injuries are caused by bleeding.
It is important to note that when the patient becomes hypothermic, the bleeding worsens. In fact, at body temperatures below 32 °C, the blood's ability to clot is dramatically reduced. This renders surgical intervention in the field extremely challenging and significantly reduces the likelihood of survival.
Our system maintains patient warmth and helps save lives.
Warmflakes' patented system is designed to maintain the patient's temperature from the point of injury (POI) through to treatment, including any prolonged field care that may be required.
It is vital to maintain normal body temperature in patients who are bleeding, as this will save lives.
It is an essential prerequisite for effective first aid and trauma treatment (e.g. surgical intervention).
The system and products have been developed specifically for military use.
Eventually, the system and products will be offered to the civilian emergency medical market.
Research and collaboration
The Norwegian Ministry of Defence has approved an R&D project to develop parts of the system.
Warmflake is collaborating in an ongoing tripartite partnership with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and the Norwegian Armed Forces Medical Service at the Office for Cold Weather Medicine (FSAN/KKM).
